Alex Waters

Alex is Head of Asset Allocation and Chair of the Asset Allocation Committee. His focus is on evolving and clearly communicating Rathbones’ total-portfolio asset allocation framework to deliver superior risk-adjusted client outcomes through disciplined judgement, probabilistic thinking and clear communication. He also leads impactful asset allocation research that enhances the investment framework and process.

Alex joined Rathbones in September 2026, bringing 14 years of international experience in global financial markets as an economist and strategist across the private and public sectors. His insights and guidance are grounded in systematic, data-driven empirical research. Prior to joining Rathbones, Alex worked in Japan supporting family offices for Japanese ultra-high-net-worth families.

Alex holds a doctorate in Economics from the University of Kent. His academic research has been published in leading peer-reviewed economics and finance journals and cited extensively.
